Dr. Mikael Holmstroem, D.V.M., Ph.D.
- D.V.M. at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden, 1981.
- After 5 years at the Horse Clinic and Farrier School at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Skara, Sweden, followed by postgraduate studies in Uppsala, Dr. Holmstroem obtained a Ph.D. (V.M.D.) from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in 1994. Between 1990 and 2000, Dr. Holmstroem was a frequent speaker at international conferences on horse physiology and horse locomotion, and has published a total of seventeen scientific papers in peer reviewed journals on the subject.
- Dr. Holmstroem started his own business in 1996, including horse practice, research and consulting in the field of horse biomechanics. During this period he developed an objective conformation tool for elite dressage horses and show jumpers. As a member of Dr. Lambert's team and Equine Analysis Systems since 2001, Dr. Holmstroem has developed and is responsible for the conformation analysis system for race horses (FotoSelect®). He also heads up Equine Analysis Systems' international (non-US) sales through Holmstroem Thoroughbred Management Limited.
Dr. David Lambert, B.V.Sc., (Hons), M.R.C.V.S.
- Founder Equine Analysis Systems
- Graduated in Veterinary Science at Liverpool University with a First Class Honors in 1972.
- Studied the Herring-Brauer reflex of respiratory control at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, after winning the Lord Leverhulme Travel Scholarship.
- After two years at the Nutley Animal Hospital he started his own practice specialising in horses, including racehorses at Monmouth Park and Meadowlands and show jumpers for which he consulted for the United States Equestrian Team. Dr. Lamberts has been a licensed trainer for both flat horses and steeplechase horses.
- In 1985 Dr. Lambert started the development of heart scanning techniques that over the years have been used to help predict the racing outcome of many Gr1 winners and Champions.
- In 1987 Dr. Lambert established his business, Equine Analysis Systems in Kentucky, US. Over the last ten years his company has developed additional procedures to predict racing performance including breathing efficiency, conformation analysis and genetic tests.
Professor Matthew Binns
- Equine Analysis Systems team member
- Ph.D. from the University of Kent in 1981.
- Worked at the Institute for Animal Health for seven years before moving to the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket in 1990, where Professor Binns played a leading role in the research leading to genetic maps for the horse and dog genome.
- Whilst at the AHT Professor Binns was responsible for Thoroughbred registration DNA testing.
- After 14 years in Newmarket Professor Binns took up a position as Professor of Genetics at the Royal Veterinary School in London.
- After 5 years in that position Professor Binns joined Equine Analysis Systems.
- Professor Binns holds visiting academic positions at the University of Liverpool and The University of Nottingham and has published more than 150 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals.
Dr. Deborah Boehler, D.V.M., B.S.
- Equine Analysis Systems team member
- Graduated from College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 1999.
- During her academic years Dr. Boehler worked as a research assistant at the Pulmonary Laboratory, Michigan State University.
- Dr. Boehler joined Equine Analysis Systems as an Associate Veterinarian in 1999 and has been responsible for research and development of technologies for performance evaluation in Thoroughbred racehorses, including the Wind Test®, Motion Analysis and Effort Rating.
